is Professor Emeritus of Pharmacology and Director of Research at the School of Medicine, University of Panama. Professor Sánchez was President of the University of Panama and is a former National Secretary of Science, Technology, and Innovation of the Republic of Panama (1995-1999). Recipient of the “Isabel la Católica” medal of Spain, he also served as President of the Panamanian Association for the Advancement of Science and as Advisor to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
